According to the CBMSC (Military Fire Service of Santa Catarina), the fire was brought under control and there was no risk to patients.
Firefighters were called at 6:55 p.m. and the fire was under control by 7:14 p.m. According to the corporation, no one was injured as a result of the fire, and no patients needed to be evacuated.
The fire was extinguished by a hospital team; immediate consequences and examination are being carried out by firefighters.
Unimed Hospital continues to provide services as usual
In a statement, Unimed confirmed that “there were no compromises in the provision of medical care and no patients or hospital staff were harmed.”
The medical cooperative states that “Unimed’s plan to prevent and extinguish fires in the hospital, implemented by team members and regular training, played a critical role in preventing a major accident.”
“The start of the fire was controlled and the fire service is assisting in determining its origin. Care at the Unimed hospital, imaging service and 24-hour A&E remains normal.”
