Demand for the Urussanga River is outdated

“This is an old requirement, it has affected many cities. Flooding causes serious damage to agriculture, industries that are often forced to suspend production, and, above all, the population, which is left homeless, at risk, and often loses almost everything they have. This problem must be resolved quickly,” says Mayor Noah Coral.

In order to solve the problem, a project was created in 2015 to carry out the work, at that time the amount of investment was about 118 million reais, currently, taking into account the updated figures, the investment has increased to reais. 400 million. In response to the mayors’ demand, the state government was to carry out a survey of the region by next Thursday to urgently clean up the canal.

“The State Government has been very receptive, understood the urgency and asked municipalities to commit to speeding up the clean-up. Thanks to the emergency decree, this work will be easier,” explains Vice Mayor Eduardo Guollo.

According to the mayor, efforts will initially focus on the section of the Urussanga River, from BR-101 to Barra do Torneiro. “Municipalities have invested in infrastructure and drainage, but when the water reaches the Urussanga River, there is no flow. We decided to do this palliative work until something more comprehensive could be implemented. In this way, we can guarantee greater safety for the population and avoid further floods,” explains Noah.

In addition to the cities represented at the meeting, Rincan, Cocal do Sul and Pedras Grandes were also affected by the flooding of the Urussanga River, although to a lesser extent.
