A child narrowly escaped a black bear attack using an unexpected method that worked. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media and shows the moment the bear attacks the boy with full force.

“In the face of death” the child shows composure and runs away from the bear

The child’s reaction to the bear attack confused Internet users because it was in some sense unexpected: the boy stopped in front of the animal. “Because he didn’t run, the bear didn’t know what to do either, and everything ended well,” explains biologist Biomesquita on social media.

The video shows a curious and ominous scene as the two stare at each other before a man appears and scares away the black bear. Biomesquita stressed that the episode could have ended in tragedy if the child had run away, which would have “awakened the instincts of the animal.”
