Businesswoman Tania Sapellin Ribeiro, 56, will return this Tuesday (17) to appear before the jury of the Florianópolis district. She is accused of murdering her husband, Colonel Silvio Gómez Ribeiro, PMSC (Military Police of Santa Catarina). He was killed in 2019 in the Estreito area, the victim of a blow from a dumbbell in the gym by a businesswoman – the accused confessed to the crime.

Tanya was acquitted of murder in August 2021, but on August 4, 2022, the jury found her not guilty by a decision of the TJSC (Santa Catarina Court).

The judges realized that “there is contrary evidence in the record that could exclude the hypothesis of a pardon.” In other words, the jury would have discounted the technical evidence. The appeal was filed by the MPSC (Ministry of State of Santa Catarina), also the author of the criminal case.

The new jury will begin work at 9 am. The hearing is open and the jury will not be the same as at the first trial.

Claudio Dalledone, Tanya’s lawyer, said the TJSC’s decision to overturn the acquittal “failed to take into account the sovereignty of the jury.”

“The natural judge in a matter is the people. We will demonstrate the horror that this woman suffered at the hands of this colonel. He created a killer through an abusive and toxic relationship. We brought elements into the case that clearly demonstrate this, but, unfortunately, the sovereignty of the people was not respected,” the lawyer added in an interview. no date +.

Tania Sapellin Ribeiro was arrested on May 23, 2019. According to a police investigation, she is accused of killing her husband with a weights at the gym. Then the businesswoman even cut her husband’s wrist and neck in order to simulate suicide. The defendant claims that the crime was motivated by difficult relationships and threats to which she was exposed.

The MPSC charged Tanya with double murder by brutal means and because it was committed in a manner that made it difficult for the victim to defend herself.

Tanya was imprisoned from the day the crime was committed until August 6, 2021, when she was acquitted. She is awaiting the decision of a new jury at large in Massaranduba, where she currently resides.
