According to Comseg coordinator and President of Alesc (Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina), Deputy Mauro de Nadal (MDB), Medellin was considered one of the most violent cities in the world in the 1990s.
However, this has changed due to several public policies in the field of education, such as the construction of cultural spaces, libraries, green spaces, infrastructure, etc., which have been implemented since 2004 and with the participation of civil society.
According to the Committee, in addition to the capital of Colombia, the goal is also to get acquainted with in the locomotive experiences in places like Boston and Denver (United States of America).
Efforts to improve school safety in the state come after a massacre that killed four children and injured others on April 5 at Cantinho Bom Pastor Kindergarten in Bairro Velha, in Blumenau.

“This international mission is part of Comseg’s work,” Nadal said. “The public policy adopted in Medellin has significantly reduced the number of sad facts like those that happened, for example, in the Saudades and Blumenau schools”
“We want to test these actions up close and see how we can integrate them into the reality of Santa Catarina,” emphasizes the President of the Legislative Assembly.
Surrounded by representatives of the military police, MPSC (Ministry of State of Santa Catarina), UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina) and SED (State Secretariat for Education).
The Legislative Assembly will also include MP Lucian Carminatti (PT), committee member and chairman of the Assembly’s Education Commission.
Organizations strive to improve security policies
Comseg Escolar is a group of over 30 organized civic entities created by the Legislative Assembly shortly after the sad event that took place in Blumenau.
Since then, the group has been working on a broad bill to be presented to the Assembly itself by the end of August. Public hearings and visits were held to get acquainted with examples of preventive and counteracting actions.
Three thematic groups were also formed to discuss strategies for solving the problem.
In addition to security measures, the project focuses on pedagogical issues, research and psychological support for students. The proposal is to create an atmosphere of peace in the institutions.
