Young Diego Kaliniski, 26, was shot dead by a military police officer during an early morning approach last Sunday (5) in Vera, Mato Grosso. According to Prime Minister Mato Grosso, officers were called in to respond to the public disorder incident.
At the scene, police said they saw a group of people gathered around a car playing loud music and demanded paperwork for the car. “Given the numerical superiority and aggressiveness of the suspects, these funds were not enough, which required the use of firearms, which were used sparingly,” the military police said.
According to the video footage and the Prime Minister’s report, there is no record of the youth group carrying firearms and no shots were fired at the police.
In contact with UOL, a military police adviser said that the two police officers involved had been removed and an investigation was launched to see if excessive force was used by the officers.
“The government of Mato Grosso emphasizes that this is not compatible with any violence or abuse of power,” the advisory council said in a note.
