Origin fu fighters, one of the most successful rock bands of the 21st century, has been hit hard by tragedy. Its formation, like its first songs, took place after the suicide of Kurt Cobain. After taking over from Nirvana, Dave Grohl founded Foo Fighters, inheriting that wildly raw and harmonically noisy sound that characterized the grunge of those years.

Those from Seattle turned the page with the music from that first self-titled album that Dave dedicated to his friend Kurt. Nearly thirty years later, the Foo Fighters are once again mourning their eleventh studio album. But here we areto say goodbye to his drummer Taylor Hawkins and Grohl’s mother, who died the previous year (the dedication “For Virginia and Taylor” is written on the back).

Ten new songs coming to light on June 2, in which the Seattle-based band takes a cathartic journey through the various stages of death, demonstrating that some of the hardest emotions also emerge from the hardest moments.

But here we are it’s a supremely elegy that starts with a misunderstanding on songs like “Rescue”, seeks recognition on “Under You”, suffers the loneliness of absence on “Hearing Voices” and waits for the storm to die down on “The Glass”.

Restoring a sound reminiscent of the classic Foo Fighters, this album also explores new genres and influences such as dream pop and shoegaze on songs like “Show me how” and also marks the release of the longest song in their entire repertoire with ” The Teacher”. . The latter is a dark and melancholic ten-minute dive into Dave Grohl’s mind, with clear allusions to his mother, who was a teacher:

“You showed me how to say goodbye, you never showed me how to say goodbye / You showed me how to grieve, you never showed me how to say goodbye” (You taught me how to need, you never taught me how to say goodbye / You taught me how to cry, never you didn’t teach me to say goodbye).

Another new feature on this album is Dave Grohl playing drums again (which hasn’t happened since Color and shape in 1997). Rest – starts like a lullaby. You can rest now, you will be saved now. But here we are ends with “Rest,” a final lullaby, a parting whisper that acts as a sort of balm of hope, in which she ends by singing, “Under the warm Virginia sun, there I’ll meet you.” I will find you)

After the release of this latest album, it remains to be seen if the Foo Fighters will announce a new tour that includes a concert in Spain in the near future. Last year, the band was scheduled to play last summer at the Civitas Metropolitano in Madrid, but the sudden death of their drummer apparently forced them to cancel all shows.
