The HIJG (Infantile Hospital of Joan de Gusmão) in Florianópolis last Monday (29) sent a letter to the MPSC (Ministry of State of Santa Catarina) after receiving criticism from MP Sergio Guimarães (União Brasil).

According to the document, a video posted by the MP on Sunday (28) shows the mother of a patient admitted to the hospital. The video would say that the child was hospitalized due to the resonance of his appeal. However, according to the hospital, the patient was admitted to the hospital at 3:31 p.m. on the 26th.

When asked by Sergio Guimarães, he replied that the information was false. According to him, at no point in the video does he say that the child was not hospitalized.

“The above video conveys the desperation of a mother with a child being treated in this hospital. The report is personal and reflects the reality faced by this family, without any “defamation” of professionals or the hospital department,” the parliamentarian writes in a note.

According to the SES-SC (Santa Catarina Secretary of Health), the document was also sent to the CRM-SC (Santa Catarina Regional Medical Council).

However, in a formal letter sent to the prosecutor’s office, the team explains that “fatigue caused by videos posted on social networks encourages this behavior of parents who are disrespectful to the servers and cause team fatigue. There are even servants who have already quit the sector for not supporting such a situation anymore.”

“HIJG provides excellent services to the Santa Catarina community with a mortality rate of less than 1%, comparable to the best medical centers in the world,” the hospital says.

The hospital also says it is constantly increasing its bed capacity, currently 176, and recently opened a new burn unit, a new pediatric intensive care unit, a new isolation room and a new outpatient day hospital. However, in recent months, despite all the expansions, the number of calls is breaking historical records.

“In just one weekend, more than 100 patients classified as orange were treated, which are more serious patients requiring more attention from the team, examinations, emergency care,” he writes.

At the end of the document, it states that the hospital is asking for support to help defend the HIJG name in the face of so many defamatory allegations, as well as its servers, which work tirelessly to serve the entire Santa Catarina community with excellence.

According to the Guimarães group, the mother herself recorded the images on the day before the date given in this letter.

“In a previously recorded video, the mother portrayed her despair over the hospital care provided to her son and in several actions asked that the same be brought to the attention of the MP. The consequence of this case is a picture of reality. If reality damages the image of the hospital, then this cannot be attributed to the work of a parliamentarian, ”he argues.

Also, according to the deputy, in his posts he never blames the end, that is, nurses, doctors and other servers, but the system itself, which is overloaded. He writes that this premise is so true that a letter sent by the hospital reported: “Hospital staff and clinical staff worked tirelessly to meet demand, even while suffering from excessive workload, physical and mental overload.”

In the video, the message in which I say is clear: “thank God the hospital provided the intensive care unit due to the consequences.” However, with regard to the invitation mentioned in the official letter, which stated: “(…) this Board has already invited the aforementioned parliamentarian to come to HIJG to talk and get to know the work being done here, however this does not appear”, no is true, here, I can prove my concern about the situation in the hospital through numerous conversations with the director of this department, which are exchanged through WhatsApp.

Finally, the parliamentarian says he will continue his work, which he called “the search for quality hospital care in Santa Catarina.”
