Hours after an Argentine tourist died from drowning on the central beach of Balneario Camboriu, on SA’s northern coast, two other people needed help.
Rescuers called the fire service early on Sunday morning (17) to help a 17-year-old tourist from Chile and a 37-year-old man.
The first victim, a young Chilean, was swept away by the sea in front of the Marambaya hotel. When firefighters arrived, rescuers were already working to remove her from the water.
The man was located near Mole da Barra Norte and was also rescued by rescuers.
Firefighters helped remove the second victim from the water and assessed the man for a Grade 1 drowning. As a result, firefighters transported him to a medical center.
The Argentinean drowned a few hours ago
A 58-year-old foreigner died this Saturday afternoon (16 years old) after drowning in Praia Central de Balneario Camboriu. It was around 1:15 p.m. when paramedics and firefighters were called to help him.
According to eyewitnesses, cries for help were heard and the fire department soon arrived. The spot on the beach where the drowned swimmer was rescued was near Plaza Almirante Tamandare, on the outskirts of Balneario Camboriu.
Civilian rescuers treated an unconscious man with signs of a grade 6 drowning, the most serious degree when the victim experiences cardiopulmonary arrest.
In the absence of signs of heartbeat and foaming from the mouth and nose, resuscitation measures were started.
More rescuers then arrived to help the drowned swimmer. The victim’s wife, a 53-year-old woman, also arrived at the scene. Both were of Argentine nationality.
Argentinean would have taken medicine before drowning on the beach
During the rescue efforts, the woman also told firefighters that her partner had been experiencing chest pains in the morning and that he had taken medication before going to the beach.
After three cycles of cardiac massage and two shocks with an automatic external defibrillator, Samu (Mobile Ambulance Service) rescuers arrived and pronounced the swimmer dead at the scene.
The scientific police sent the dead man’s body to the IML (Institute of Medicine Legal) in Balneario Camboriu. His identity has not been revealed at this time.
