The PRF (Federal Highway Police) motorcycle police team caught five vehicles with a total weight of 79,790 kg of excess cargo on the BR-101 highway in Pena, the northern coast of SC, on Friday morning (15). The goods transported included sand, gravel, crushed stone and asphalt.
Trucks spotted in Pena
Drivers were allowed to continue their journey only after they had transferred the excess cargo onto other trucks, bringing the weight up to the permitted limit.
In accordance with PRFIn 2023, more than 4.5 million kilograms of excess weight in trucks have already been removed from traffic on the Santa Catarina federal highways.
“Asphalt pavement is a public property. Exceeding the permitted weight leads to the formation of holes, cracks and unevenness. The whole society pays the bills. In addition, the braking and suspension systems are overloaded, which increases the likelihood of accidents and poses a danger to the driver,” the PRF report emphasizes.
