Renfe and Adif point to human error, which has yet to be determined, as a possible cause of the train derailment with 270 evacuees that occurred this Saturday evening at the El Chorro station in Alora (Malaga), according to reports that exclude the time there are faults on the track and on trains, and there is no connection with this incident.

Renfe breathalyzed the drivers of two trains operating at the same location and received negative results in both cases, as reported this Sunday in a joint statement by the operating company and infrastructure manager Adif.

Adif and Renfe have launched two independent investigations to determine the cause of the accident, which occurred at around 9:30 pm on Saturday when two trains carrying 270 passengers, one of them a double train (the two trains connected), collided sideways at the railway station. station from El Chorro.

Alternative transportation plan

All travelers were transferred to the Cercanías train to Malaga, from where they resumed their journey to Seville and other stations by bus.

With services still disrupted, Renfe has developed an alternative transport plan for passengers on medium-distance trains between Malaga and Seville.

Travelers travel between Seville and Antequera by regular train, while travel from Antequera to Malaga and vice versa is at high speed. Passengers from intermediate stops between Antequera and Malaga travel by bus.

Renfe also provides free ticket changes or cancellations to all travelers who request it.

Second crash

This Sunday morning, a second derailment occurred in Andalusia, without injuries, since the train was not carrying passengers.

It happened at 6:45 a.m. in Setenil (Cádiz), when an axle broke on a compacting machine carrying out infrastructure repairs on the Antequera-Algeciras line.

In this case, the cause of the incident was a breakdown of part of the compacting machine during the completion of repair work, Renfe and Adif said.

These repairs are carried out in the absence of trains and passengers.

The tamping vehicle was back on track and off the road at 1pm, although traffic at the site was still blocked.

Also in this case, Renfe has developed an alternative transport plan that takes travelers by bus.
