A new bridge was opened in Joinville, in the north of Santa Catarina, to make life easier for residents of the Pirabeiraba area. The Caminhos do Pico Bridge, located on Estrada João Flute, was completed this Thursday (14).
The new structure runs over the Cubatan Norte River and is 55 meters long. The work was announced in July this year. The investment amounted to about 679 thousand reais, according to a parliamentary amendment.
For residents, the new crossing will make traffic in the region easier. “For us it was always a sacrifice. At first there was a low bridge; every flood that happened closed the bridge. It was dangerous: every time there was a flood, the bridge would wash away and we would be left stranded. Then there was no longer a ticket, I had to walk 18 km. Then they built a high bridge, but it was still damaged every two years because it was made of wood. This was a great achievement for us, the wait is over, the problem of decades is behind us,” says resident Marcos Merkle.
The bridge was completed ahead of schedule
The work was expected to be completed within six months, but the new crossing was delivered ahead of schedule, just over four months after work on site began on July 25 this year.
According to the Joinville City Hall, the structure is 5.5 meters wide and has a lane for vehicles, a sidewalk for pedestrians and fencing.
