The City Council of Balneario Camboriu has approved a measure that changes the operation of convenience stores and tobacco shops in the municipality. The consumption of drinks in convenience stores, as well as the sale and consumption of drinks and food in tobacco kiosks, will be prohibited. In addition, these establishments will only be able to operate until midnight.
The guiding principle in question is the Customary Law Project No. 128/2023, which is now submitted to the Mayor Fabricio Oliveira (Poland) for sanction and thus enters into force. The standard was approved during last Wednesday’s session (13) along with eight other drafts.
Convenience stores and tobacco kiosks will be required to operate exclusively from 8am to midnight and are prohibited from opening outside this period. In addition, tables and chairs from these establishments cannot be placed in public places or adjacent areas.
The consumption of alcoholic beverages in places of comfort was prohibited. Tobacco shops cannot even sell food or drinks of any kind. Hookahs, in turn, should only be used indoors with prior permission.
Convenience stores and tobacco kiosks must monitor sound and “noise”
Another issue discussed by the House was the breach of the peace. The bill would restrict the use of mechanical or live sound in stores and tobacco kiosks, as well as “any form of racketeering or noise,” according to the guidelines.
Failure to comply with the law results in revocation of the license and a fine of five UFM (municipal financial units), equivalent to R$ 1,964.95. The price of Balneário Camboriú UFM is currently R$392.99.
