The new F-39 Gripen fighter jet from FAB (Brazilian Air Force) was delivered from the port of Navegantes, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, to the city’s airport on Tuesday evening (12).
The operation was carried out around 22:00 and mobilized several security personnel and residents who had gathered to watch the “event”.
Gripen fighter will make its first flight after reviews and tests
The aircraft, produced by Swedish manufacturer Saab, is the seventh in a fleet of 36 F-39 Gripen aircraft ordered by FAB to strengthen Brazil’s air security. The fighter is considered one of the most modern in Latin America.
The mega-operation carried out on Tuesday evening served to provide “maximum security” support for the delivery of the ship to Navegantes airport. After a series of tests and modifications by Air Force engineers, the fighter will make its first flight to the Anápolis airbase in Goiás.
Due to traffic problems, traffic changes have been made in Via Portuaria and surrounding areas to ensure smooth traffic flow. Watch the video posted by Guilherme Wiltgen:
The last F-39 units to arrive in Navegantes, back in May 2023, were “housed” in the hangar of Santa Catarina retailer Havan. This time the information has not yet been confirmed by either the Brazilian Air Force or Navegantes Airport, with which the no date+ contacted.
Below, watch the video of the last Gripen fighter that took off in the city on May 9:
