The runway at Congonhas Airport in southern Sao Paulo sank and prevented a Gol airline plane from taking off on Friday afternoon (8). Due to an unexpected problem, passengers were transferred to another plane.

The plane is stuck on the runway and take-off to Vitoria (ES) is cancelled.

When the taxiway, where planes maneuver and prepare for flight, was flooded, the Gol plane had one rear wheel stuck in the asphalt. The scene can be seen in a video posted on Golf Oscar Romeo’s YouTube page.

According to R7, after the crash, passengers were transferred to another flight and the plane was towed from the runway. The flight’s destination was the capital of Espirito Santo, Vitoria.

Operations continued without major impact and another road was used to access the main runway, according to Aena Brasil, the concessionaire responsible for operating the airport.
