Alexandre Pires, who appears in the Federal Police operation, removed the name of Mateus Possebon as his manager after the preventive arrest of the leader. They are being investigated for their suspected involvement in illegal mining on Yanomami indigenous land in Roraima.
The addresses associated with the artist and agent were searched this Monday (4) as part of the so-called Operation Golden Disc. One of the listed addresses is in Itapema, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina.
Mateus Posbon’s name was on Alexandre Pires’s social media bio, along with his performance contacts, email and phone, as well as on a website that collected various links related to the artist, such as event tickets and recorded performances.
Alexandre Pires would have received a sum of one million dollars from the mining company
The investigation shows that the singer received at least 1 million reais from the mining company. Possebon is suspected of financing mining on Yanomami indigenous lands. According to the Pension Fund, the businessman will be one of those who “bears responsibility for the financial basis of the crimes.”
The operation was opened after the Federal Police seized almost 30 tons of cassiterite illegally mined from the headquarters of one of the suspected companies in January 2022. This shipment will be shipped overseas.
Cassiterite occurs as a raw rock and is usually sold as a concentrated powder obtained after the mining process, which is also useful for tin mining.
According to the PF, the suspects developed a scheme to make the mining illegal. Cassiterite will be mined in Yanomami territory, in Roraima, but on paper it will be stated that it comes from the Tapajos River.
In addition to Itapema, last Monday (4) the police issued two arrest warrants and six search and arrest warrants in Boa Vista (RR), Mucahai (RR), Sao Paulo (SP), Santos (SP), Santarem (PA) ) and Uberlandia (MG).
Alexandre Pires achieved success in the early 1990s with the Só pra Contrariar group of pagodas. And he remained very popular during his solo career. The singer has sold more than 18 million records and is one of the attractions of New Year’s Eve 2024 in Florianópolis.
