A teenager drowned in a dam in Bom Retiro, Serra Santa Catarina, on Sunday (3). Firefighters said he was underwater for about 15 minutes before he was rescued. During resuscitation, rescuers said his heart started beating again, but he did not survive.

Firefighters were called to respond to a drowning on Atanagildo Ramos de Andrade Street in the city center around 3:15 p.m. Firefighters said there was a small dam at the site that appeared to have been removed.

Drowning in a dam

People told rescuers that the 15-year-old victim went in to take a shower but ended up disappearing into the water. A firefighter entered the pond and began searching the area where people last saw her.

Four minutes later, the rescuer managed to find the teenager, who was at a depth of about 2 meters in the central part of the reservoir. He remained underwater for about 15 minutes and had no pulse when he was taken from the scene.

Firefighters took him to the hospital, which is located about 500 meters from the drowning site. On the way, they tried to revive the teenager. According to firefighters, rescuers helped hospital doctors for about an hour, trying to resuscitate the victim.

According to firefighters, the teenager’s heartbeat was restored, but he could not stand it and died.

Three drownings and a death in Serra Santa Catarina

Another case of drowning was reported in Serra Santa Catarina on Friday (1st). Three young people drowned in a river in Otasilio Costa. An 18-year-old girl died on the spot, two others were rescued alive.

Firefighters said a 16-year-old boy was among those who drowned and was assisted by members of the public during the rescue. He was conscious and oriented, but exhausted.

Another victim who received assistance was a 23-year-old young man. He was rescued by firefighters and was in a difficult to reach area, about 300 meters from the teenager. The boy is conscious, but nervous, excited, with unstable signs. After being rescued from the water, he was taken to hospital. .

According to firefighters, the deceased girl was 18 years old. She was taken out of the water already lifeless.
