Agroecological farmers Katia and Daphne from Sitio Aimotua in Anitapolis, Greater Florianopolis, were the target of apparent threats this Monday (27), causing outrage among the local community and environmentalists.
A chilling note found in a stable trough warns: “You don’t know the locals. Don’t mess with them because they may wake up with ants in their mouth. This is a single warning. And it’s very easy. Do not forget”.
This message, in addition to being scary, threatens the integrity of farmers who have dedicated eight years of their lives to the agroforestry project.
However, this is not the first time they have faced fighting in the region. In 2021, upon returning home, they found a window broken by a shot, and inside the room they found pellets from a cartridge.
At that time, the organization Acolhida na Colônia, with which Katia and Daphne are associated, sent a letter to the mayor’s office of Anitapolis asking them to take action, which, unfortunately, was not taken.
Farmers responded to the message on social networks:
Akolkhida na Kolonia reported that measures are being taken to transfer the case to the competent authorities. A police complaint has already been registered at the local police station. All evidence and related documents are transferred to the district, general police department and prosecutor’s office, they said.
Civilian police say they are aware of the case and that the report is being analyzed to take appropriate action as it is a threat and a privately prosecuted crime.
