Have a cup of coffee and, as a bonus, get to know the culture and history of Florianópolis in the center. Enjoy a wide variety of culinary offerings in the city, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a Creative City of Gastronomy since 2014. Or enjoy the breathtaking scenery on one of the capital’s more than 100 beaches, from north to south of the island, without paying anything.

From December 17 this year, residents and tourists will be able to discover all the delights and attractions of Floripa with free public transport on Sundays as part of the Domingo na Faixa program.

This project is one of the actions planned by the capital’s mayor’s office for 2023/2024 and will last until February 11, 2024. This measure aims to ease traffic, which increases significantly during these times, especially on weekends, in addition to encouraging the use of public transport and travel to different areas of the municipality, explains Mayor Topasio Neto.

“We hope that thanks to free travel, guests and residents of our city will begin to use public transport more. This is also an opportunity for the population to get the most out of it or get to know places they don’t usually visit,” the mayor emphasizes.

This season, City Hall will also increase queues at tourist attractions and beaches, which are usually shorter on Sundays. There will be more of these buses so that people can travel the same way as on other days of the week, the municipality explains.

Below you will find some places to visit during Domingo na Faixa.

City inside the capital

The Ingleses district, with a population of more than 35 thousand inhabitants, is not only very busy during the high season, but is also practically self-sufficient in its infrastructure.

In addition to the beach, which is in great demand among visitors, the area, located in the north of the island, offers a vibrant nightlife with many bars and restaurants, including bilingual services for foreign tourists.

After the expansion of the sand strip, visitors can enjoy a beach more than 35 meters wide and 5 km long throughout the day. Its northern part is ideal for surfing, while the southern part is calmer and ideal for families. You can also have fun in the dunes of Ingleses and go sandboarding or skibunda.

To get to Praia dos Ingleses you need to take flight 264-Ingleses at the Canasvieiras Integration Terminal.

Fishing, surfing and incredible sea swimming

Located in the east of the island, Barra da Lagoa Beach is both a traditional fisherman’s haunt and an ideal place for those learning to surf. Its crystal clear sea pleases many swimmers, since the water has an average temperature, it is not cold and not very hot, and in addition, the waves are not so high and strong, which allows you to get a lot of pleasure and a pleasant swim in the sea. .

The sandy strip of beach is 650 m long and is decorated with several natural beauties such as the Canal da Barra and a collection of rock carvings and archaeological artefacts.

Another must-stop for anyone visiting this place is the natural pools at Barra da Lagoa. To get there you need to follow an easily accessible 15-minute trail, crossing a metal bridge over a canal. Gastronomy is another highlight, with several restaurants serving dishes for the whole family.

To visit Barra da Lagoa, take line 360-Barra da Lagoa from the Lagoa Integration Terminal.

Unique sunset

The Santo António district of Lisbon, one of the three oldest sites on the island of Santa Catarina, next to Lagoa da Conceiço and Ribeirão da Ilha, is imbued with Azorean culture, where visitors can find historic buildings, colorful houses and fishing boats. On site you can find restaurants on the seafront (famous for oyster farming), on the first cobbled street in the state of Santa Catarina, Feira das Alfaias (Saturdays and Sundays with crafts and local products, from 11:00) and the historic Church of Nossa Senhora das Necessidades.

Since Santo Antonio de Lisbon beach is not suitable for swimming, the ideal activity for this region in the north of the island is to enjoy the sunset on a bench or lawn.

To get to Santo Antonio you need to take line 940 – Canasvieiras/Santo Antonio via Jurere.

Sports and recreation in the far south

Pantano do Sul Beach is an already famous spot on the southern tip of Santa Catarina Island. This is a beach with calm seas, ideal for kayaking and anchoring, with a 3 km long strip of sand.

Next to the beach entrance is the entrance to the trail leading to Lagoinha do Leste beach, which takes about 45 minutes. But those who are not so adventurous can also rest assured, since the resort can also be reached from the sea. The boat ride lasts 20 minutes along the route.

To reach this destination you need to take line 563-Costa de Dentro at the Rio Tavares Integration Terminal.

Tradition and modernity in the city center

Located in the heart of Floripa, the Center reflects the entire history of the city in its buildings and streets. The region, from where people and goods came to the warehouse and public market, contributed to the development of the city that is today the capital of Santa Catarina.

Anyone passing through this region can’t help but notice some of the tourist attractions beyond the sand, such as Place XV, the old fig tree and the Cathedral. In the same quarter you will find the Florianópolis Museum, which features interactive totems that tell the historical, geographical, cultural and symbolic aspects of the city. It is open from December to February from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 20:00 and is closed on Tuesdays. On weekends it is open to the public from 10:00 to 16:00.

The Hercílio Luz Bridge, the city’s postcard, is another must-stop for visitors and residents. Our “Iron Lady” is 97 years old and was the pioneer of overland communication between the island and the mainland, over 820 meters long! Whether you’re going for a bike ride, watching the sunset or picnicking in Parque da Luz, the top of the bridge is a famous meeting and relaxation spot on the island, with special programs held on weekends.

In accordance with Municipal Law No. 10,199 of March 27, 2017, the City Hall of Florianópolis reports that the creation of this content was free and its publication on this portal cost R$ 2,000.
