A man was killed with a machete in the early hours of this Thursday (23) on Via Expressa in Contagem (Milligis). A truck driver driving past the scene witnessed the crime and called the police.

The truck driver, who did not want to be named, said he was driving along Via Expressa, near the Bairro Beatriz junction, at about 3am when he saw two men running. One of them was armed with a machete, the other tried to escape.

“They crossed the road in front of me, running, and when they reached the side of the road, one hit the other, and then ran away towards Betim,” the truck driver said. Information taken from the Estado de Minas website.

He stopped the truck and ran to help the victim, but it was too late. The man, who appeared to be between 20 and 30 years old, was found dead in a pool of blood. The truck driver called the military police and Samu, who confirmed the death.

The truck driver did not identify the assailant, who said only that he was wearing dark shorts and a cap. Police still do not know the motive for the crime, but a cocaine pin was found at the scene, which may indicate involvement in drug trafficking.

The machete used in the murder has been recovered by police and will be examined to try to find the gunman’s fingerprints. The victim’s body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) Contagem and has not yet been identified by family members.
