The 50-year-old man who shot his ex-wife had already threatened her with death before committing the crime this morning, Tuesday (14), in Gaspar, in Vale do Itajaí. He subsequently committed suicide.

The crime shocked residents of Rua Itajai, in the central region of the municipality of Gaspar. Eyewitnesses reportedly saw the man stalking his ex-wife in the morning. Everything indicates that this was an attempt at reconciliation.

A 59-year-old woman was shot dead in the middle of the street, near the Celesc de Gaspar store. The man found the victim walking along Itajaí Street, after which he committed the crime and then committed suicide on a public street.

According to Civil Police Chief Gaspar Paulo Keurich, the couple had an affair, but the victim decided to end the relationship.

“This is a fact with which the author does not agree. He has already promised the victim death. Therefore, on Friday, when we were notified of these facts, we had already taken all the measures provided for by law. The victim was even offered the opportunity to take refuge, but she refused this offer. From her words, I understand that she had the means to protect herself and stay with family members,” he said in an interview with the program Tribuna do Povo, on NDTV.

The woman took measures to protect herself from her ex

According to the delegate, the incident was first reported on Tuesday(7). Another incident was reported Friday. According to the Gaspar Civil Police, the woman also took protective measures against the author.

“We were only able to contact the victim and find him on Friday afternoon. On Friday, all necessary measures were taken to ensure compliance and application of the actions provided for by the Maria da Penha Law.”

On Friday, the civil police presented the preventive arrest of the man with the consent of the MPSC (Ministry of State of Santa Catarina). On Monday afternoon (13) the decision was made to place the author in preventive detention, as explained by the police chief.

“We had officers on the ground doing other things and we had already begun to locate this author and execute the arrest warrant. However, the information we had about the whereabouts of this citizen was very vague. So much so that within a few minutes we received information that for the last week he had been staying in one of the hotels in the city. This morning he found the victim walking along Itajaí Street and there he committed feminicide and then suicide.”

The civilian police are investigating the circumstances of the crime and whether the perpetrator was actually stalking the victim.
