Delegate Marcelo Colazo from the DPCAMI (Department for the Protection of Children, Adolescents, Women and the Elderly) revealed details of the case of a newborn who was found dead in Cazador, in the west of Santa Catarina. The child’s parents, both 22, confessed to the crime and were arrested on Sunday (12).

According to the delegate, the child was killed shortly after birth. The mother allegedly strangled her child on the way home from the hospital, all with the consent of her husband.

Arriving home, the mother went to take a shower, and the husband found a place to hide the child’s body. The location chosen was under the kitchen floor. The man removed the refrigerator, dismantled the floors and made a hole, and then rearranged everything.

The couple’s family did not know about the pregnancy. For this reason, the couple isolated themselves, which forced family members to seek help and report the woman missing. During the investigation, childbirth was discovered.

According to police, the child is healthy. Hospital birth records were found inside the house. One of the reasons the couple allegedly committed the crime was not knowing whether the man was truly the father of the child, as the couple had resumed their relationship about 7 months ago.

The Cazador County Criminal Court ordered preventive detention for the couple. The two were arrested red-handed on Sunday (12) and had a detention hearing at the Judicial Division on Monday afternoon (13). The process is carried out secretly.
