The mayor of Florianópolis, Topacio Neto, said this Monday (13) that the expansion of the Jurère sand strip will cost 24.7 million reais and will last until Carnival.
The expansion will be financed equally between the city of Florianópolis and the government of the state of Santa Catarina. Once construction is completed, the sand strip will be about 30 meters long.
Expansion of Jurere beach
Although the implementation period is five months, Topasio claims it will be completed in less than two: “It will be a quick project. A powerful Dutch dredger will arrive and we will restore the beach.”

The dredging and hydraulic embankment will have the same system as on the beaches of Canasvieiras and Ingleses. It is expected that by the beginning of the 2023/2024 summer season the beach will be expanded by 3380 meters.
Environmental license
Currently, the mayor’s office only needs Ifan’s license to begin the expansion of Jurère. The Federal State Ministry requested the suspension of the environmental license several weeks ago, but the court rejected the request.

“We are already issuing the assignment, we still need a “small license” from Ifan (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage), but the company will start bringing equipment,” the mayor said.
The full project will be presented this Monday by the Minister of Infrastructure Raphael Hane in Amoja (Associação dos Moradores de Jurerê) at 19:00.
