The app driver suspected of raping two passengers in Florianópolis has been charged with rape by the PCSC (Police Civil de Santa Catarina). The incident occurred in July of this year. The suspect was temporarily arrested in September, underwent the victim recognition procedure and is now at large.

Why do application drivers respond freely?
According to the Civil Police, the man is at large as there has been no arrest. Additionally, there are no other records of similar crimes associated with him.
After completing the investigation, the case was sent to the 1st Prosecutor’s Office of the MPSC (Ministry of State of Santa Catarina), which will decide whether to file a complaint against the driver.
The MPSC said the process is being conducted in secret. Authorities have not released the driver’s name.
Remember the case
According to an investigation by the DPCAMI (Department for the Protection of Children, Adolescents, Women and the Elderly), the rape occurred in July in the north of the island of Santa Catarina.

According to witness statements to police, the suspect chased two women as they left a bar in the central area of Florianópolis and headed towards the home of one of them.
Upon arrival at the house, the driver took advantage of the victim’s drunken state to commit rape, according to police, as the two passengers failed to resist.
