In the midst of despair, everything is done to avoid oblivion. At least that’s what Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip are doing.
They began using name bracelets to identify relatives and prevent family members from being buried in mass graves in the event of explosions.
Bombings in the region have killed more than 6,500 people since the Israeli counteroffensive began. Information taken from the R7 portal.
‘Despair’
Because of such a high number of corpses, Palestinians in Gaza are burying unidentified dead in mass graves, using a number instead of a name, residents say.
Now some families have called for the use of ID bracelets in hopes of finding loved ones if they are killed.
One man said he decided to split his family to prevent everyone from being killed in one attack.
His wife left two sons and two daughters in Gaza City in the north, while he moved to Khan Younis in the south with three children.
He also bought blue bracelets for family members and tied them on both wrists.
“If anything happens,” he said, “that’s how I’ll recognize them.”
Other Palestinian families also bought or made bracelets for their children or wrote their names on their hands.
Mass graves in Gaza
Mass burials were sanctioned by local Muslim clerics.
Before burial, doctors save photographs and blood samples of the deceased and assign numbers to them.
In the past 24 hours, 756 Palestinians, including 344 children, have been killed, the health ministry of the Gaza Strip, which is ruled by the Hamas terror group, said.
He added that since October 7, Israeli bombing has killed at least 6,546 Palestinians, including 2,704 children.
