The Alto Vale do Itajaí region has been one of the hardest hit by the heavy rains that have hit Santa Catarina in recent weeks. The security forces that provided support to the victims included the PRF (Federal Traffic Police), which carried out several operations on the corporation’s aircraft.
The PRF said the mission was accomplished and work in the affected cities was completed. The Bell 407 aircraft, with four crew members, made 52 takeoffs in 10 days. Having finished the activities, she returned to base.
The plane flew 39 hours.
According to PRF, during this period there were 39 hours of flight time, during which 79 people were transported, including sick people and technicians from the mayor’s office or civil defense.
The helicopter also delivered about three tons of food, two thousand liters of water and medicine worth about 5 million reais to the homeless.
However, with highways and streets flooded in some places in the region, the only possible access to aid and assistance was by air, according to the corporation.
PRF also highlighted the joint work being carried out with the Department of Civil Defense and Fire Services to reduce the suffering of people affected by floods in Alto Vale.
