According to Housing, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Jorge Rodrigo, the site will be reopened “almost a month ahead of schedule,” he stressed. This means that neighbors and employees of the first stations owned by Vallecas (i.e. Puente de Vallecas and Nueva Numancia stations) will again be connected to the center of Madrid via metro line 1.

According to the adviser, on Wednesday, September 27, traffic will be restored on the section between Sol and Nueva Numancia, part of the 19-station section closed on June 24. Line 1 will remain closed between Nueva Numancia and Valdecarros.

This renovation process includes the removal of ballast (rocks that are placed on the track platform) and wooden sleepers to replace them with a new concrete platform, thereby updating the rail fastening and support systems, as well as introducing new high-tech devices that manage road crossings and junctions. . By doing this, they want to reduce noise and vibration, and the drainage system will be improved, which will optimize its safety and reduce the number of incidents.

In total, work will be carried out on more than 13 kilometers of the route and in parallel at overhead power lines and signaling facilities, as well as work to remove asbestos.

After this first phase in 2024, work to improve Line 1 is expected to be carried out on the remaining section between Sol and Pinar de Chamartin.
