Following the recent works by Semasa (Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Service of Itajaí) completed last Tuesday (8), Morro da Cruz in Itajaí, north coast of Santa Catarina, is facing rain runoff problems, especially during the rainy weeks experienced until this Friday. (eleven).
According to Cemas, the drainage of rainwater, in particular in Morro da Cruz, is carried out without the help of storm drains, descending from a hill. However, thanks to recent work, newly replaced sand spreads faster in rainy weeks like this one.
Morro da Cruz soil needs to be re-compacted after rains
“We put sand on top of the pipes, as it is the right material to cover the pipes. There was even some compaction, and the paving stones were hastily replaced, precisely in order not to leave the street unpaved. Obviously, with the first rain, it is already predicted that this will happen, but it is not the whole hill that collapses, but just the material that we replaced, ”explained one of the Semasa inspectors.
However, according to Semasa, over time the ground tends to stabilize and Semasa needs to recompact and pave the road again. The images show the state of Morro da Cruz this Friday; check:
