The Lauro Müller Bridge, commonly known as the Salto Bridge, has been upgraded with LED lighting. The Secretariat for Nature Conservation and Urban Development (Seurb), through the Public Lighting Board, replaced all sodium lamps with new ones.
According to Public Lighting Director Daniel Hostin, the work, completed on June 25, will bring a number of benefits to society through the lighting upgrades. “In addition to improving energy efficiency, we were able to guarantee sustainability, reduce maintenance costs and, above all, improve public safety in the vicinity of the building,” he emphasizes.
More lighting work
Continuing the landscaping work, in the first half of July, the Department of Urban Planning and Improvement will begin work on the introduction of street lighting in two municipal squares.
The places served will be Praça José Ferreira da Silva on Rua República Argentina and Praça Aluisio Sebastião Gazzaneu on Rua Joaquim Nabuco.
History of the jump bridge
Between 1896 and 1898 the construction of the bridge piers was started by the builder José Bonna. The first bridge across the Itajai Asu River in the Salto region received a metal structure weighing 155 tons, brought from Germany in 1911. Two years later, on June 29, 1913, Ponte do Salto, as it is popularly known, was officially opened as the Lauro Müller Bridge.
The structure was 175.5 meters long, 6 meters wide and 18 meters high. After the collapse of a 30-meter span on January 5, 1982, the bridge was completely rebuilt. The main features were retained: 6 meters wide for the track and another 0.60 meters for the walkers and pipes capable of supporting 24 tons.

Preventive maintenance calls, maintenance requests due to off or flashing lights increased by 10% in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2022. The number of hits increased from 6600 to 7300.

According to Serb, in the coming weeks, three more important sites will receive an expansion of the lighting network in Blumenau. The streets covered will be Aluisio Sebastiao Gazzaneu, Prof. José Ferreira da Silva and Anna Demonti Smaniotto, located in the Progressu region. Together, these three actions amount to an investment of more than 298,000 reais.
