Flight passengers experienced panic after an e-cigarette exploded and their luggage caught fire. The plane was already in flight when this incident was recorded last Thursday (18).
The plane belonged to EasyJet and was heading to Amsterdam when it had to declare a state of emergency after smoke came out of the middle of the carry-on luggage.
Passengers say that a few minutes after takeoff, when U2-1517 reached an altitude of about seven thousand feet (more than two kilometers from the ground), they saw smoke coming out of one of the upper compartments.
Then one of the flight attendants opened it to check what was going on and saw two suitcases on fire. Some passengers tried to carry their backpacks outside and put out the flames with their bare hands.
The plane made an emergency landing at Geneva airport and was met by emergency services, who boarded and inspected the plane, which returned to work two days later, flying to Corsica.
According to the British tabloid Daily Star, 191 airline customers flew to the Netherlands the next day. Nobody reported any injuries.
