Gibraltar customs confiscated this Friday two tons of marijuana divided into 53 bales different sizes and packages found at sea.

The operation, which began on the morning of May 20, began after customs officers aboard HMC Tango 4, during routine patrols, discovered suspicious packages that sailed on the east side of the Rock in British territorial waters of Gibraltar, according to a statement from the Government of Gibraltar.

After determining that they were cannabis bundles, the agents deployed two additional vessels, HMC Seeker and HMC Tango 1, and coordinated the operation to collect all the bundles, which made it possible to seize and seize a total of 53 bales of illegal drugs from the sea.

Although specific details cannot be released as the investigation continues, the total number of drugs seized is estimated to be around two tons.

The estimated street value of the seized amount is about £9 millionwhich is equivalent to more than 10,360,000 euros.

Customs Administrator John Payas stressed his delegation’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking networks and highlighted Customs efficiency in their work to stop drug trafficking.

Similarly, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo assured that “Customs officials are working tirelessly to remove drugs from the streets of Gibraltarand thanked the body’s work.
