This Sunday, Sao Jose turns 273 (19 years old), and a good reason to celebrate is the city’s investment in street lighting upgrades. Locations such as Beira Mar, the Historic Center, the Cobrasol area, Seniro Martins Park and other squares have already installed LED lights, which, because they are more durable, have a lower environmental impact, and also guarantee savings for the public treasury.
Quantum Engenharia took over the public lighting park in San Jose over a year ago. A 30-year-old company from Santa Catarina, guided primarily by the mission of promoting development combined with sustainability, has become a national reference and a highlight in terms of project planning and implementation.
In San José, Quantum, which is responsible for providing services to the municipal park, participated in the modernization with the installation of LED lighting in Barreiros, on Avenida Leoberto Leal. But the improvements don’t end there. In addition to the avenue, other streets received 7994 new lamps. The action envisaged by the Municipality’s Aims Program confirms the interest in turning the region into a “Smart City”, where technological development is linked to sustainability.
Public squares deserve special mention. Among the city’s modernization projects are Adriano Farias Square in Forquillinhas; Praça da Avenida Leoberto Leal and Praça Renato de Souza in Barreiros; Praça da Rua Armelino Silveira, Praça do Morar Bem, Praça da Rua Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, Praça do Luar, all in Serraria and Praça da Rua Jaime Estefano Becker, in Areias. In addition, the installation of an underground public lighting system with decorative LED technology in Parque da Beira Mar, located at Av. Acioni de Souza Filho in Campinas.
At Grupo Quantum’s headquarters in San José, in Greater Florianopolis, concern for the environment and sustainability has led to the creation of the Waste Center. On site, the waste generated during the course of the company’s operations is properly stored and sorted. This process complies with the National Solid Waste Policy, so it prevents any negative impact of discarded materials on the environment.
With a focus on public lighting and solar energy, Quantum has been in the electrical sector for 30 years and has a strong focus on recycling light bulbs, a hazardous material that must be decontaminated before final disposal. After storage in the Waste Center, they are collected by a specialized company licensed for this work.
Material that can be recycled without pre-treatment receives a special purpose. Paper, cardboard, metal and plastic are donated to the Associação de Coletores e Soradores de Florianópolis, a non-profit organization that has been recycling and selling dry waste for over 20 years. The value of sales to processors contributes to the income of the families involved.
“At Quantum, we operate with a focus not only on compliance with the laws that apply to our business, but also on sustainability, resource conscious use and reuse, adding value to waste that would otherwise be thrown away. In addition, by donating these recyclable materials to non-profit organizations, we contribute to the social sphere, to the community in which we operate,” emphasizes Gilberto Vieira Filho, CEO of Quantum.
