Anyone passing through the downtown area of Joinville, north of Santa Catarina, may have already noticed something different about the landscape outside City Hall. It’s just that the Nove de Março building, the famous Green Building, no longer exists.
The demolition of the historic building began at the end of January, and since last Thursday (9) the company responsible for the work has been removing the debris, which is sent to a landfill.
According to the mayor’s office, about 1,500 cubic meters of material have already been removed, which corresponds to about 100 flights of aerial platforms with an average capacity of 15 cubic meters each.
The demolition of the first three floors of the building was carried out by hand using equipment such as high-pressure compressors. Two tractors with wheel loaders are used for demolition of finishing floors and garbage removal.
After removing all debris, the company will clean and level the ground, as well as remove fences and clear the area. The Department of Urban Infrastructure will then revitalize the space by installing a residential area.
The Secretariat for Research and Urban Planning is developing a study on the improvement of mobility and the possible expansion of the Cachoeira River.
