The mother was arrested on suspicion of abandonment and abuse of her four children aged 1 to 8. The arrest took place this Monday (13) in Garuva, north of Santa Catarina, as a result of joint action by the civilian police and the Board of Trustees. The children were rescued and taken to an orphanage.

According to police chief Eduardo Defaveri, the woman was addicted to drugs and did not fulfill the basic duties of food, education and health care for her children. In addition, she is suspected of involvement in a criminal organization.

Faced with complaints, the Civil Police and the Board of Trustees went to the place where the mother and children lived. The locality was already known to the police, since it was here that the murder took place in December 2022. The man was killed after a party held at the scene.

Arriving at the house, police officers and counselors found the youngest child of the woman, a one-year-old child, sleeping on the floor in the mud. “The situation of risk and vulnerability of the four children was clear,” the delegate’s note read.

At the scene, the team found only three of the woman’s four children. One of the children, aged 4, left alone and a few minutes later returned from a walk along the river, which is located near BR-101. The children also did not have clothes to go to the orphanage. All of his clothes were burned after the first use. The delegate explains that because the place was constantly used for drug use, the children had to be taken from their homes and taken to an orphanage.

“Poverty in itself is not a reason for abandonment, as long as there is a minimum of attention to health care and childrearing,” defends the delegate.

The woman was arrested red-handed for the crimes of leaving a major incapacitate and abuse, in view of the dangerous situation that the children were exposed to.

The woman was sent to the women’s prison in Joinville and did not deny her involvement in the crimes against her children.
