Firefighters talk about rescue
Joinville firefighter Carlos Dres says José’s car was behind a box truck that was squeezing the victim’s cab. Luckily, José’s truck was not completely buried, allowing him to drive away.
“There was land on both sides, but it wasn’t completely filled in. There was a corner, which was partly where we managed to get through and remove it, ”says the rescuer.

A lifeguard accompanied work at the scene on Monday (28). Divided into teams, he was one of those who conducted the first searches in the place with the largest landslide.
After several hours of scanning, the team and Carlos located José. According to firefighters, the driver of the truck was stuck in the cab. “We were able to help him and get him out,” he says.
The incident was very difficult and tiring, the fireman said. “Serving at night with low light, we also had problems with rain and a continuous landslide, which is a constant risk for garrisons,” he explains.
“We traced the entire area where we did the mapping, and, thank God, we managed to find a survivor, but, unfortunately, there are still many people who need to be removed,” he concludes.
