Find out what are the 21 safe routes in case of flooding in Joinville

To warn of the risks of flooding in downtown Joinville, City Hall, through the Civil Defense and Department of Transportation (Detrans), will begin signing Safe Route signs in the city center. There are 21 signs indicating the exit from areas of possible flooding during heavy rains. Slab placement is expected to begin on Thursday (10/20) unless it rains.

According to Joinville civil defense chief Maiko Richter, the installation of signs at the Center is a pilot project.

“We will analyze how this signaling will work before extending it to other parts of the city where floods occur, such as Vila Nova, Morro do Meio, Costa e Silva and other areas,” says the manager.

He also explains that the presence of a sign on the road does not mean that it is not prone to flooding. The sign may indicate the path to a safe route. Signs without arrows indicate that the person is in a safe area.

“Arrow signs serve as escape routes. For example, on Rua Dona Francisca, towards the Sambaqui Museum, at the height of Rua Lages there will be a sign indicating to turn left, because in case of flooding it is impossible to reach the museum. Or the case of Rua XV de Novembro. The street in front of the Central Station will point to the turn to the right on Rua do Principe, ”Maiko gives an example.

The Safe Route map is available on the City Hall website at bit.ly/rotasegurajoinville. The graphic elements of the sign project were inspired by an academic dissertation completed in 2015 by Jean Fabiano Andrighi, then design academic at the University of the Region of Joinville (Univille).
