This Monday morning (17) a hiker fell into the Iguazu River on the Argentine side of the Iguazu Falls and disappeared. The man must be an Argentine citizen and his identity has not yet been verified. The accident happened around 10:30 am.

Witnesses told the local press that a man climbed onto the railing of one of Salto’s upper passages. bossetti and two Brothers to take a picture, he lost his balance and fell into a waterfall.
The man joined the park as part of a closed group of tourists and was in the vicinity of Salto Bossetti when he disappeared. “A man traveled through one of the seven wonders of nature as part of a group with a guide,” the newspaper El Territorio reported in its online edition.
Other sources, such as the Misiones Online portal, mention that the man took off his shoes before climbing onto the railing. On the other hand, the La Voz de Cataratas website, citing police sources, reports that the tourist would “rush” towards the falls.
The Iguazu National Park Authority in Argentina said rescuers searched for the man throughout the day. The work was supported by the Puerto Iguazu fire department, Misiones police officers, soldiers from the Argentine Naval Prefecture, and forest guards.
At 11 am on Monday, the water flow at Iguazu Falls, measured by Copel (Companhia Paranaense de Energia), was 5,370 cubic meters per second (m³/s), which is three and a half times higher than normal.

Of the three panoramic runs on the Argentine side, only two are open to the public: the Upper and the Lower. The Garganta do Diabo footbridge in Argentina, damaged by floods in recent days, has no opening date.

The main walkway to the falls on the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls was reopened last Saturday (15) after a four-day closure due to rising water levels in the Iguazu River. On Thursday, the flow of the waterfall reached 16.5 million liters per second.
This was the second largest flow recorded at the falls since Copel began measuring water volume in 1997. Normal flow is considered to be 1.5 million liters of water per second.
