A pregnant woman at 38 weeks pregnant, almost 9 months pregnant, was shot dead at around 20:00 this Sunday (16) in her own home. The femicide attempt took place on Ernestina Lapa de Macedo Street, in the Fazenda district of Itajai, on the north coast of Santa Catarina.

The victim is 33 years old, has no police records, and was shot in the rib and neck. According to witnesses, a thin man, about 1.71 m tall, entered the house of the victim, who was with his family, asked who the pregnant woman was, called her by name, when no one answered, ordered everyone to lie on the floor.

The shots struck a pregnant woman, when the military police arrived on the scene, the Samu brigade (Mobile emergency service) approached the pregnant woman, after which she was taken to the Marieta Konder Bornhausen hospital.

Prior to arriving at the hospital, the victim would point to a former comrade as the perpetrator of the attack. The father of the victim was also in the house, and when the suspect arrived, he was in one of the bedrooms, when he came into the room, the man asked him to lie on the floor and shot at his daughter, after which he fled.

Neighbors said that when they heard the shots, they went outside and saw a man in a helmet running away on a silver Honda CG motorcycle, but they could not identify the number.

Police found two revolver bullets at the scene. The IGP (General Institute of Expertise) was in place. The civilian police were also present.

Alleged former partner victim

After the first information in the victim’s house, the police officers went to the hospital to try to talk to the pregnant woman. She said she was at home with her family when a man came in and asked who she was, calling her by her first name.

The suspect then ordered everyone to lie on the floor and shot the victim twice, once in the ribs and once in the neck. The victim suspects that the former partner was responsible for the attack, since a protective countermeasure is in effect against him since 2020, as the end was very violent.

Due to the pregnancy and the fact that the father of the child had mutual friends with her ex-husband, the victim was afraid that he might encroach on her life. She no longer has a relationship with the father of the child, and he did not want to take the child, as he was already in other relationships.

The victim, however, did not recognize the man who shot, as he was wearing a helmet, despite the raised visor.

Due to a prolonged pregnancy, the victim was due to give birth at the end of October, but due to an attack, she would have to have a caesarean section.

The former partner of the victim and the father of the child were not present at the scene, but had the right to conduct appropriate investigative actions. Also on the 10th of this month, the victim requested through the virtual police station a new measure of protection against her former partner, as she feared for her life and her child still in her stomach.
