The suspect in the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend in Lajes was convicted by the MPSC (Ministry of State of Santa Catarina) for triple qualified murder (murder of a woman, clumsy motives and use of a resource that makes it difficult to protect the victim) and an abortion performed without the consent of the pregnant woman.

A 35-year-old man was arrested last week in Itapiruba in the south of the state and is responding to a complaint. The 1st Attorney’s Office of the District of Lages demanded that he appear before the people’s jury and await the direction of the process.

According to the indictment, on June 16, 2021, a man allegedly entered the apartment of 19-year-old Ana Julia Floriano in the city center and fired at least three shots at her. The projectiles caused the victim multiple injuries, severe anemia, and head trauma, leading to her death.

A security camera captured the suspect’s escape. According to the prime minister (military police), the footage showed a man on the street near the crime scene, moments after the victim was killed.

The suspect appears in the background of the images wearing black clothing, a cap, sneakers, and white sneakers. The young woman was in her second month of pregnancy and her family was against the relationship.

The defendant would have committed the crime because he did not want his ex-girlfriend to continue the pregnancy, the result of a relationship between them. He remained on the run for 14 months, but last week was detained by the Lages Criminal Investigation Department in the city of Itapiruba.

Upon arrival in Lagesh, he participated in custody hearings, his pre-trial detention was approved, and he is currently in the Lagesh Men’s Prison. The suspect’s name has not been released as the trial is under judicial secrecy.
