A man was sentenced to seven years in a high-security prison for attempting femicide in Lajes, in the Serra de Santa Catarina. He dragged his girlfriend by the hair for about 100 meters and then kicked, beat and cut with garden shears.

The conviction took place during the fourth session of the joint effort of the Lages County jury on Thursday (11). According to the complaint, the fact occurred during a quarrel out of the girlfriend’s jealousy and feelings of obsession towards the victim, a motive recognized by the jury as one of the signs of an attempted murder – a vile motive and femicide. .

The crime took place in December 2018 in the Morro do Posto area. A recidivist of a premeditated crime, the boy confessed to partial commission of the crime. During jury trial, he said he grabbed the woman by the hair and dragged her down the street.

The work was led by cooperating judge Ronaldo Denardi of São Joaquim County. The justice of the peace denied the defendant the right to appeal the decision at large.

The task force will continue its work next week in Lages.

Court sessions

August 17th. In April 2017, the defendant and the two victims had an argument at a nightclub in the Universitario area. The accused and several people who accompanied him fought with the couple and attacked each other. At the same dawn in the Santa Monica area, the defendant, in revenge, surprised the victims with several shots from a firearm as they walked down the street. They managed to escape. The two attempted murders are categorized as clumsy causes and a resource that made protecting the victims difficult.

August 18 – Who will be judged on this day is the man who tried to kill his ex-partner in 2011, unhappy with the end of the relationship. From August of that year, the defendants began to physically attack and threaten the victim. The woman returned to live with her parents. In September, he set fire to a wooden warehouse under the house, endangering the victim, his family and others. In October, in the San Carlos area, the accused attacked his ex-wife, who was walking down the street, and stabbed her in the head and arm. The death threats continued until 2013. Attempted murder qualifies for clumsy motive. The crime does not qualify as femicide, since it was committed before 2015, when the relevant law came into force.

24 August. In 2016, an attempt was made to kill a woman in Bocaina do Sul, and a woman was shot in a vital area. She was at her daughter’s house when her ex-partner, with whom she lived for 10 years, tried to kill her. The couple ended their relationship a year ago against the wishes of the defendant. Crime also has the qualifiers of clumsy motive and surprise.

August 25 – a young man tried to kill his former partner, a teenage girl pregnant with his child, with a knife in the thigh area. The crime took place in January 2015, before the passage of the Law on killing women, that is, in March. The victim was on her way to the market in Daniel’s House when the defendants punched her and threatened her with death. The young man, who at that time was 19 years old, tried to hit the girl in the neck and stomach, because he did not want her to give birth to a child. They maintained a romantic relationship for about two years. Attempted murder qualifies for clumsy motive.

Aug 31 – A man stands trial for killing another boy with a knife in March 2010 in the San Luis area. The complaint states that both used drugs near the kindergarten, as they often did. The victim asked the defendant for part of the product, but he did not answer. With perseverance, the accused armed himself with a knife and stabbed the boy. Murder qualifies for a vain motive.
