O world champion Jiu-Jitsu athlete Leandro Pereira do Nascimento Lo died after being shot in the head during a brawl at a show at the Esporte Clube Sírio in Sao Paulo early Sunday (7). The information was confirmed by the lawyer accompanying the case, Iva Siqueira Junior.
According to R7, the military police were called to a gun shooting on Indianapolis Avenue at 1:57 a.m. When the crews arrived on the scene, Leandro had already been rescued and taken to the emergency room of the Saboya City Hospital.
According to the protocol of the incident, a member of the military police is a suspect in the shooting. Witnesses reported that the agent approached the athlete’s table after an argument. He would take the bottle and meanwhile the fighter stood up, took the item from the agent’s hand and with a combat kick knocked him down and immobilized him.
At that moment, colleagues of the victim came to separate the two. However, a few minutes later the policeman walked around the table and, in front of the fighter, pulled out a pistol and fired, which hit the victim in the frontal region of the head.
According to the lawyer accompanying the case, in a conversation with R7, the agent would have arranged a “provocation” for Leandro Lo by shaking the bottle on the fighter’s table.
When the athlete immobilized the agent, friends close to the table tried to separate them. “He left without reacting, but then came back and shot him in the head. The bullet is still stuck,” the lawyer explains. Police are still looking for the shooter, he said.
