The author of the essay “How to Kill Your Husband” was sentenced to life in prison in the United States this Monday (13) for the murder of her partner.
Nancy Crampton Brophy, 71, will be eligible for parole after 25 years, according to an Oregon judge’s ruling.
Details of the case were revealed during a month-long trial in which she was accused of buying guns online to kill her husband and receiving thousands of dollars in life insurance.
The gun, which she said was purchased while studying the book, was never found.
Chef Daniel Brophy was found in June 2018 on the floor in a classroom at the culinary institute where he worked. He had two bullet hits.
CCTV footage shows his wife driving through the area around the same time.
The author is signing a series of novels titled The Wrong Never Felt So Right and which includes titles such as The Wrong Husband and The Wrong Lover (The Wrong Husband. The Wrong Lover).
She says she doesn’t remember being there, but says she might have been nearby looking for inspiration for a new piece of art.
Crampton Brophy denied the murder and insisted that years of economic hardship were over and that she had no reason to kill her husband.
“I would ask you, where is the motivation? The editor laughed and said: “I think you need to work more on this story, there is a hole in it,” he said during the trial. Your lawyers will appeal this decision.
The essay “How to Kill Your Husband”, available on the blog, examines the methods and reasons for getting rid of an unwanted partner.
These include financial gain and the use of firearms, despite being considered “noisy, dirty and demanding.”
“But what I know about murder is that each of us carries it inside us when it is pressed hard enough,” he says.
