The closed season ended this Wednesday (1st) in Santa Catarina. At the same time, trawl fishing for shrimp by motorized vessels is allowed in the state. This year, however, the activity had a change in legislation.

According to the Military Ecological Police, the new rules allow vessels to carry more than two nets, but the use of triple trawling is still prohibited. That is, a fisherman cannot use three or more nets for fishing.

The change was published in Decree No. 695 of the Secretariat of Aquaculture and Fisheries of Mapa (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) in April this year. Thus, if the inspectorate confirms the use of more than two nets, or the use of a test net “trinet” together with trawl nets, those responsible will be held accountable.

The method of trawling shrimp by motor vessel is regulated by Mapa Decree No. 656 of March 30, 2022. The text informs about the rules for planning and controlling the implementation of fishing for pink shrimp, set barbas, white, santana or red and bearded.
