AI (intelligence) has been a mechanism that has remained and has made the daily lives of various professions involved in content creation easier. But the downside of technology is fraught with danger, especially for women: Deep nudes.
Deep Nudity: A Threat That Concerns Women
Deep Nudes are a type of Deep Fake where people create fake nudes using artificial intelligence based on photos posted on social media.
As a rule, criminals use recordings in scams in which people appear in full body to facilitate editing.
After passing through the AI, the original photo is altered and used to blackmail people in exchange for money or publicly disseminate it on fake profiles online.
Celebrities such as Gal Gadot, who played superheroine Wonder Woman in theaters, and Brazilian actress Isis Valverde have also had their photos altered using artificial intelligence.
ISIS even registered a report with the computer crime unit of the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police in October this year, shortly after the fake photos began circulating.
According to a survey conducted by the NGO SaferNet Brasil, women suffer the most from non-consensual disclosure of intimate images and make up 55% of victims.
Article 216B of the Criminal Code provides for a penalty of six months to one year in prison and a fine for individuals who produce, photograph or record “content containing nude scenes or sexual activity” without the permission of the participants.
According to experts, some cases of deep nudity can also be classified as a crime of sexual harassment. Law No. 13718, which classifies the distribution, exchange and sale of content depicting rape of a vulnerable person, sex or pornography, carries a penalty of 1 to 5 years of isolation.
Other cases
In Rio de Janeiro, civil police are investigating a group of school students on suspicion of using artificial intelligence to create fake nudes of more than 20 classmates.
The victims’ guardians filed a complaint against the students. All those involved have been summoned to the DPCA (Department for the Protection of Children and Adolescents) for questioning as part of the investigation.
In a statement, the school expressed regret over the situation, expressed solidarity with the students who were victims of deep nudity and said it would take all appropriate disciplinary action.
How to report?
The virtual environment is also included in special laws that determine what should be done regarding crimes committed on the Internet.
In cases such as the publication of deep nudity, you can report:
- In police stations specializing in cyber crimes, in addition to the women’s police station.
- On the SaferNet website for cases involving persons under 18 years of age.
- And on StopNCII.org, a platform created to help victims whose content (false or not) was published without their consent.
