Victor Frankosthe president Supreme Sports Council (CSD) resigns from his position five months after his appointment for “professional reasons.”

“We are at the beginning of the XV Legislative Assembly and with it the formation of a new government, which usheres in a period of stability in Spanish sport. Due to my readiness, already expressed to Minister Pilar Alegría, to take on new tasks for the professionals, the time has come for the Supreme Sports Council to place at its head a person who will take on new tasks for this institution over the next four years,” Francos said in his statement.

Francos began his career in national politics in March 2020 under the leadership of then Health Minister Salvador Illa. He subsequently accompanied Miquel Iseta, first in the Department of Territorial Policy and Public Functions and then in the Ministry of Culture and Sports, starting this phase as President of the Supreme Sports Council on June 13, 2023.

During his five months as CSD president, Francos witnessed the crisis experienced by the Royal Spanish Football Federation over Rubiales’ kiss with Hermoso. This incident had a direct impact on his figure, since until now the president of the CSD had traveled to the center of the women’s football team in Oliva (Valencia) to convince the players to remain in the team in the face of the threat of withdrawal. discipline for the absence of changes in the subject of the federation.

“I want to thank the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, for his repeated expressions of confidence at this stage of my institutional life. Also to the ministers with whom I worked, for giving me the opportunity to develop my vocation as a public servant in the progressive and transformative project of Spain,” Francos concluded in his farewell note.

Among the challenges Francos’ replacement at the CSD must face is the implementation of the Sports Law and a new ministerial order that governs the electoral processes of sports federations, including the RFEF, the 2024 Paris Olympics and the organization of the 2030 World Games. Cup.

The Sustainable Development Council presidency is undoubtedly one of the hottest political positions in recent memory. Since the arrival of Pedro Sánchez as President of the Government in 2018, four people have held this position: Maria José Rienda (2018–2020), Irene Lozano (2020–2021) and José Manuel Franco (2021–2023) and the outgoing Victor Frankos.
