Visitors Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris. During a sporting event, they will pay twice as much as local residents. The Paris region of Ile-de-France has announced an approximately 100% increase in fares on several types of public transport between July 20 and September 8, 2024, during the Olympic competition.

“During this period we are going to significantly increase the transport offer, and it is unfair that the residents of the Paris region pay this price, so we will create a new transport map Paris 2024,” the region’s president, Conservative Valerie Pecresse, said in a post on the networks.

The French region strategy was created to mitigate the extraordinary costs of 200 million euros that were calculated by the regional authorities to improve and increase public network routes during the Games.

The card announced by Pecresse will contain rates that in some cases are double those currently in force. This is the case with the weekly price for Paris and the entire region, which increases from the current 30 euros to 70 during the Olympic Games. For example, individual metro and bus tickets will increase from 2.10 euros to 4.

The increase, designed to accommodate nearly 10 million expected visitors, will not affect regular users of the transport network (metro, commuter trains, buses and trams), said Pecresse, who urged people to buy tickets in advance to take advantage of the regular fare.

Hidalgo said the transport system, which is not under his jurisdiction, would not be ready to accommodate so many users in 2024, while Transport Minister Clément Beaune condemned “political betrayal” by the adviser.
