This Monday, Telefonica informed the unions that it would submit a file of employment rules (ERE) for 5,100 people. Thus, this will be one of the largest cuts for the telecommunications company.

As has been indicated for several weeks, those affected will be people over 55 and those who have been with the company for more than 15 years.

According to union sources, a proposal was received this morning that lays out the basis for the layoffs. The affected subsidiaries will be Telefónica de España, Telefónica Móviles and Telefónica Soluciones.

“The company proposes a ‘functional surplus’ caused by technological changes, market needs and other reasons, which are included in the mandatory report that justifies its decision and which we will analyze in detail,” the Working Commission said in an official statement.

For its part, the operator said that “today the conference tables were officially installed at Telefonica de España, Telefonica Móviles España and Telefonica Soluciones. As part of this structure, the company communicated to the various employee representatives the adjustments appropriate to each of these societies in order to adapt them to the complex process of transformation and adaptation that the new digital era requires.”
