The Chamber of Deputies will have transgender parliamentarians for the first time in history, following the election of Duda Salabert (PDT) in Minas Gerais and Erica Hilton (PSOL) in Sao Paulo.

Federal MP-elect Erica Hilton was one of the top 10 most popular in the state of São Paulo with 256,903 votes. Duda Salabert finished third in Minas Gerais in terms of the number of votes, with 208,332 votes.
Antra (National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals) summed up the results of the 2022 elections and considered that the number of representatives of the transgender population in Congress is still small, “but extremely representative and influential.”
“This year we have moved from a situation where there was not a single trans representation in the Federal Chamber to two extremely qualified and influential ones,” the association said via its social networks.
“A promising result that forces us to move forward in defense of democracy, human rights and a secular state, drawing attention to the place that transvestites have historically occupied in our society.”
The House was close to electing a third federal transgender MP for Pernambuco this year, with Robeyonce Lima (PSOL) receiving 80,000 votes, more than six elected MPs. A candidate was not elected to one of the 25 seats because the Rede/PSOL federation did not receive enough votes to elect two candidates. In this case, the lawyer is a substitute.
