Considered one of the most feared animals on the planet, the Komodo dragon is able to swallow its prey whole with little effort.
A video posted to social media shows the moment a predator grabs a goat and takes only 20 seconds to completely swallow the animal.
The Komodo dragon has an inhibitory toxin
Biologist Matheus Mesquita explains that the predator has an extremely toxic toxin full of bacteria, which explains why the goat became paralyzed when it was swallowed.
The paralysis is due to venom injected from the bite of a reptile, which usually infects its prey with the toxin. The beasts even manage to escape, but after a while they get stuck.
The Komodo monitor lizard is in no hurry and calmly follows the prey that attacked it, as it will probably “wait” for it, ready to serve as food.
“This toxin starts by lowering the bitten animal’s blood pressure and also causes it to lose a lot of blood, preventing blood from clotting. This will make the animal more and more weak, go into shock, and it will not be able to run very far,” the biologist emphasized.
In the publication, some netizens took pity on the goat, while others stressed that this is how the animal world works.
“The animal is still alive, what a pity,” commented an Internet user. “Nature can be cruel,” replied another. “Survival is not for the weak,” said one user.
