A video circulating on social media shows how greedily a flock of piranhas are devouring an already killed alligator in Palmas, Tocantins.
Ruthless piranhas tear the flesh of the reptile like paper. The speed and agility are such that one of the fishermen who watched what was happening compares the fish to a “crusher”.
“Oh crazy, he even got inside,” says another, when one of the fish is unhappy and exceeds the carcass limit. The post was shared by @andre_acyer’s Instagram profile and by 12:30 this Thursday, it had already surpassed 20,000 views (29).

Piranhas are carnivorous freshwater fish. Most piranha attacks in Brazil are recorded in the Amazon region, especially species of the genus Pygocentrus (red belly).
Usually these animals attack when they feel the presence of blood in the water, the splash of a possible dam or, in some cases, during the breeding season, which obliges them to protect their offspring.
